I don't know why lots of people disliked this book. Compared to other Murakami works sure its not the most daringly original or freaky but it has its own intimate charm to it. I really fell in love with Tsukuru as a character. His Si jumped out at me and I really enjoyed the potrayal of an Si-dom protagonist. Something you don't see often. Obviously this dudes Si is off the charts. Routine, comparing things from the past to improve them (Si-Te) and his disconnect from other peoples more exploratory lifestyle. The interest comes from how His Si-Fi loop hinders him. Constantly trying to look back and see how he changed and lost his friends. Also how his Ne develops. Becoming more spontaneous, deciding to take chances based solely on a passing idea. (sidenote but also a great literary metaphor for how he constantly watches trains go by without ever getting on one himself). The ending is perfect in my opinion. The juxtaposition of his Si lifestyle against taking the opportunity his Ne wants is really the entire books message on a microscale. Fantastic read.
