Like a comment has previously stated, he appears to be a Te dom who is likely depressed. He does seem to embody the stereotype of a xSTJ, but I feel the crankiness could stem from the Te function that views everything as an inherent challenge. One of those challenges being old age. I do not mean to take a sad turn in my comment, but it does happens to folks who are coping with getting older until their eventual passing. It is quite depressive, and a Te user who no longer can be efficient as they were in their youth would have a hard time coping. A Si dom (ISTJ) would likely expect this happening and would have an easier time dealing with that situation. This leads me to believe he is an ESTJ who is hit by the loss of his energy and youth. Poor guy.
