[1/2] "Nero, go! You're just dead weight" Then Nero proceeds to mald the entirety of the game about that one insult When DMC 4 came out, the community hated Nero. People wanted more Dante. But following Dante's mediocre gameplay in comparison to the protagonist, people finally warmed up to Nero and he's become a fan favorite in the series. The black sheep Nero is Sexual Four. A SX4 embodies the person who has a chip on their shoulder and they cannot forgive or let go, displaying transgressive and spiteful behaviors to cope with their sense of inferiority and envy. The 'cannibalistic' character of SX4 is to devalue the other to unconsciously rid themselves of their innate feeling of shame. Nero is edgy, harsh, aggressive, sardonic, empathetic, and shameless. Honestly nothing that contradicts SX4. I decided on SX4 after realizing not only that he's a sexual type, but he was simply way too rebellious and outwardly aggressive. He's consistently like this in both DMC4 and 5. There's definitely similarities between him and his father in the search for power. However, Nero's motivations embody the teen angst of SX4. He's the more emotionally attuned and fiery son of Vergil (SX6). I've seen SX6 and SP4 takes for this guy and while I can see where they are coming from, I personally see a lot of flaws within the central idea of the types being attributed to him. A character like Nero reminds me of Anakin Skywalker, characters that exude a show-offy and extravagant presence and have wrathful energy to them out of the need for love. Nero obsesses over power like his father but out of a need to actively protect his loved ones and feel worthy as a person. His attachment to these bonds and the excessive competitiveness of his character leads me to type him as sexual instinct. Nero grew up with no parents and was taken in by his childhood love Kyrie, he has a deep attachment to her and her brother. He has this deep seated shame within himself because of how different he is from others, feeling disgusted by his demonic abilities like his devil arm. He'd hide it in a medical sling and cover his arm out of shame, while also demonstrating an irresponsible and rude demeanor (listens in his headphones and going up and leaving when he's bored) while he's at the praying ceremony. Out of head, gut, and heart triad, why would Nero be anything other than heart? Typing characters in enneagram you have to consider their worldview and life themes. He is a relationship focused person, entirely devoted to the attention of his kin. Themes of worthlessness, embittered emotional volatility, strong fixation on kinship and connection to others, are dominantly present in Nero's character. A 6 core is hypervigilant and speculative due to it's fixation on anxiety. Vergil sought strength as a means of voiding anxiety, idealizing his father's devil blood and powers as a way to break the weakness and betrayal he felt when he thought his mother had abandoned him for death. The distrust in people and fear he felt caved into his soul afterwards, making him obsess for power. The megalomaniacal Vergil embodies the E6 theme as his life theme, someone that feels scared of being helpless and vulnerable, with the subtype of SX6 morphing his motivation to focus on strength to go against fear. Nero's main theme is not the fear of not losing himself by the world, but losing others and feeling worthless that he cannot be useful enough to protect them. This sense of helplessness is entirely dedicated to his ego and the images that involve his relationships being at stake. Not feeling regarded and loved is his principal struggle. This is the contrast between him and Vergil's search for power, one is clearly more hearty and emotionally charged whereas the other is logical.
