Enneagram 8 explanation While yes, Derek himself has been stated by the creator to be "Obsessed with presentation" due to his standing as the heir of a billionaire this isn't enough to be considered a enneagram 3. His father aka "Woundfucker" constantly abused him which led him to get a obnoxious scorpion tattoo on his back to cover up the scars. He felt powerless and this caused him to fear not being in control. (Core fear of a Enneagram 8) When he isn't in control Derek is reminded of his trauma, The helpless feeling eats away at him so he overcompensates by being obnoxious and sadistic, its a coping skill to hide his insecurity. He doesn't crave success or achievement as he's already been given all that simply by being a billionaires son, he only cares about upholding this achievement needing persona so he stays on good terms wis his father. He would much rather just get his way plain and simple than have a good reputation among his peers or Make a name for himself. Once again only proving he only cares about his presentation because of the position he is put in by his father. its even stated in his Bio that he only acts High-end and successful in front of others is so he can "Further his fathers networking opportunities". I understand why people may think he is a Enneagram 3 due to the pressure that is put on him by his father and the environment he is surrounded by, but it seems like he is an 8 living in a 3 world. He doesn't value acceptance from others and if he does its a way to stay on good terms with his father as the top candidate to inherit his wealth. as when he was younger he was a wildcard doing whatever he pleased without caring about how it made him or his father looked, jeopardizing his luxury lifestyle just so he could chase that feeling of "Being in control". and we can prove this from his bio as his father "Offered him a deal" To take out his sadistic nature on the poor victim he brings to the desert. He wears a 3 mask to make himself look better in front of his father. Because if he isn't his father will show him who is really in control.
Biografie
Derek is the eldest son and heir of an insanely wealthy investor/luxury goods mogul. He does what his father tells him to do to prepare for his eventual takeover of the company. He attends parties and rubs shoulders with other wealthy and powerful people to further his dad's networking opportunities. Darek hasn't been perfect, however. His abysmal in university, coupled with multiple illegal violent incidents has caused severe friction between himself and his father, who had to pay to cover everything up. Eventually, he offered a deal to Derek. His father told him about the desert group. A place he could do anything he wanted to 'get it all out of his system'. After the sizeable "donation", he was accepted into the group. His father even pointed Derek to an auction to obtain his own mandatory victim. Derek made the mistake to ask his father how he got all these connections once. His punishment was so severe, he never asked his father another question again.
