Biografie
Caster Semenya is a South African Olympic mid distance runner. She won gold for the 800 m run in 2009, 2016, and 2017. Although competing as a woman, she has faced significant controversy and scrutiny due to her naturally high testosterone levels, which are a result of being intersex—a condition where an individual has biological traits that don't fit typical definitions of male or female. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), now World Athletics, introduced regulations requiring female athletes with differences in sex development (DSD) to lower their testosterone levels to compete in certain events. Semenya has challenged these rules in court, arguing that they are discriminatory and violate her rights, a fact that has meant that she has been disqualified from various tournaments and mired in legal arbitration since 2019.
