I reckon an ESTJ would have made better decisions and used his Ne better than just hoping the right possibilities he wanted to happen would happen. He seems to have a passiveness about him which shows cognitive introversion and lower awareness of Ne, and I would assume a dom at the least in Te would be aware of what to do in this situation even if it's not a common one (and if not like I was saying that's what child Ne is for).
