Siméon Denis Poisson was obsessed with scientific work, publishing a vast number of research papers and books. He was clearly the type of person who lived more within his own mind and equations than in the outside world. He wasn't a boisterous or controversial social figure, more akin to a traditional scientist who preferred contemplation to ostentation. He worked on numerous topics in mathematics and physics without wasting his time on philosophy or grand theoretical debates. He also had a penchant for criticism and scientific rigor, known for meticulously checking the accuracy of ideas and calculations, and sometimes opposing or questioning the ideas of other scientists if he considered them weak.

Biografie

Baron Siméon Denis Poisson FRS FRSE ( 21 June 1781 – 25 April 1840) was a French mathematician and physicist who worked on statistics, complex analysis, partial differential equations, the calculus of variations, analytical mechanics, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, elasticity, and fluid mechanics. Moreover, he predicted the Poisson spot in his attempt to disprove the wave theory of Augustin-Jean Fresnel, which was later confirmed.
