He really was the best brother anyone could ask for 😭 He never turned his back on Vincent, even at his worst. He was one of the only people in Vincent’s life who saw the great genius and heart in him during his lifetime. When Vincent had to be hospitalized due to his very poor mental state, Vincent wrote to Theo that he would give up painting to get a job at his mental asylum for more financial stability. Theo replied that he did not want Vincent to stop painting because he knew it was the only thing that made Vincent happy. Theo then gave Vincent financial support and living accommodations just for him to paint 🥹 Theo’s wife, Johanna, was amazing as well. She understood Vincent’s passion for his art, being a pianist herself. She and Theo named their son after Vincent too, and Vincent felt so honored he cried 🥹 After Vincent and then Theo had died not too long apart, she ensured Vincent’s paintings were preserved and finally recognized for the masterpieces they were.
