Interesting theory about short-sightedness. It may actually be a genetic advantage in some cases. Normally, the human eye becomes far-sighted with age (ie, it can't see in detail close-up), but when you are myopic your close-range vision tends to persist much later in life. What that means is that, before the invention of glasses, short-sighted people were able to read books and see details close to them (eg, in objects in their hands) much later into their life. Before the development of lenses close-up vision was almost essential to the livelihood of scholars, writers, and artisans, so being myopic would effectively increase the number of productive years those people would live, which offers a nice explanation for the persistence of myopia in the gene-pool. Anyway, that's my cope for having bad eye-sight.
