⊱ ────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ────── ⊰ Who Gusto Gummi ... Ne or Ni? (a character argument)🪺🌊🫂・゚ :・゚☆✧ Alright I grew up on the original Gummi Bears cartoon, I've watched just about every episode there is in the show, and I strongly believe that Gusto is a textbook ENTP. But! don't worry I'm going to write an analysis on why I feel so adamant about this. ⊱ ────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ────── ⊰ A character with a wildly flamboyant nature, always thinking up new ideas in any situation because it's a fun challenge for him. As far as I'm concerned, Gusto Gummi is essentially the blueprint for artistic ENTP characters, and I feel this way mostly because of his dominant Ne traits. I know this sort of sounds like I'm stereotyping, yet I feel like I have a point lmao. But let's fully unpack why I think this to be the case, because "It should be obvious" isn't a good argument on its own. First and foremost, Gusto is pretty much a madlad artist. He literally remained on an almost inescapable island with an active volcano for TWELVE YEARS just because he felt "inspired" and wanted to sculpt a dragon on the volcano (because it was gonna look so cool when the damn thing erupted, even though it'd incinerate everything in the process). He's literally a batshlt insane bear, and thrives in chaotic environments because it's fun for him. And yet, it's his unique out-of-the-box thinking that ends up saving the rest of the characters too, so in that regard Gusto's personality is a double-edged sword. He's described as "mercurial", constantly changing and having an unpredictable mood or mind. This fickle, inspiration-driven air to Gusto is quite easily the crux of his character. In fact, he's set up as a direct foil to Gruffi-- a character who is very grounded, stern, unchanging and values tradition, simply because Gusto's own personality is the exact opposite. And, while a part of me wants to like the ISFP consensus, the thing that's holding me back is that Gusto doesn't show signs of Ni in my opinion. The definition for Ni is, in a nutshell: "Ni is aware of this whole picture, looking ahead into the future" whereas Ne is almost over-focused on things, and "constantly having crazy ideas that don’t always seem in sync with reality." There's... obviously much more to it, and what I've just said is a gross simplification, but Type In Mind sums it up Ne's attributes well so let's look at that too: "Ne’s outside-the-box thinking can lead to what others may see as disruptive behavior. Often, if someone tries to make them do something one way, they’ll look for a different way. This usually isn’t an intentional rebellion. They look for new ways to do things because it’s more exciting than following conventional routes or just doing what they’ve done before." (Type In Mind) Now, I don't know about you, but self-isolating yourself on an island because you have a fresh new idea that you can't be pried away from sounds VERY Ne dom to me. There was no "deep thinking for the future", mans fixated on sculpting a dragon and realized twelve years later that he was gonna die if he didn't leave. I think the conclusion of either ISFP or ENTP is valid in its own way! I'm sure there are other plausible types as well, I just don't have much of an opinion for Gusto other than "ENTP, especially with that core Ne." Personally, I don't think that Gusto has any traits of Ni at all, but I'd be open to any arguments that prove otherwise (I fear this show is a little too obscure now-a-days though for that to happen... oh well) Thanks for reading! ⊱ ────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ────── ⊰
