I wish people weren't so banal and glaringly contradictory with this nihilistic rag that gives them an excuse to be irresponsible or amoral and alibistic about it. In a meaningless universe, there's no reason to drink when you're thirsty. In a meaningless universe, there's no reason for the sun to set in repeated cycles. In a meaningless universe, there's no reason for 1+1 to be 2. In a meaningless universe, there's no reason for survival to be desirable over non-survival. In a meaningless universe, there's no reason for us to desire meaning. In a meaningless universe, there's no reason for reason to occur. If such a thing like causality exists, then all of its constituent parts must hold some specific meaning in order to effect their specific outcome. There being no discernible 'one universal meaning' towards which we're supposed to strive doesn't say anything about the meaning of the individual parts and their interconnected relations which comprise it. In fact, if there was such a meaning, it would necessarily imply the non-existence of free will because the future is predetermined by that same universal impetus. Humans are a necessary component in the designation of meaning, but that's not the same thing as saying that such descriptions of that meaning are arbitrary, because we are not separate entities from the universal mechanisms that effect those meanings in the first place. So essentially, we are the universe's way of knowing itself - a kind of heuristic process that self-corrects itself over time.
