A clueless, brash man who thinks money makes you impervious to anything. His foolish action of making Mahito take a fancy car to school to show off their wealth turns him into a target for bullies. He dumps Mahito off with his estranged aunt who immediately tells him she's his new mother and is pregnant. He never once converses with his son about his trauma over his mother's death. He doesn't even give the special book his mother left for him. His first instinct is to "replace" Mahito's mother with the closest copy- Natsuko. He reminded me a lot of Chihiro's father from Spirited Away... His need to be recognized as successful and enviable dominates his mind.
