IN DEPTH PERSONALITY ANALYSIS (Part 1) Mary Kline INFJ 5w6 SO5 514 IEI IF(N) LVEF Melancholic—Phlegmatic RLOAI Neutral Good Mary is first portrayed as the anchor for Clark, his therapist. But as we get to know a bit more about her we see her childhood trauma, seen through her mind as more symbolic, emotionally overwhelming and ambiguous as her past with her mentally ill mother. With that being contextualized rather than simply observing the scenes of the therapy sessions we get more about why she acts and does things the way she does with Clark, choosing to major in Psychology could be seen as Fi to help anchor herself, though I’d reckon this is Ni — Fe action of “I won’t make the past’s outcomes consume me, I’ll take this past and make good with it.” As we see evidently, the release of her book, a guide, to help. We see she genuinely does want to help Clark. She’s extremely patient with him, she keeps the equilibrium of logic and emotion in check, her composure, in that room this isn’t about her, and not in the sense that the job requires that. But it’s something she lives by. We see that she doesn’t change this method even in distress when she’s kidnapped by Clark and forced to go through the therapeutic exercise she initially introduced to him through therapy. She doesn’t give up on Clark, and still maintains composure despite the heightened level of fight or flight. When she does lash out, it’s an emotional break of Ni — Fe 5w6 514 of internalized sacrifice for Clark, it isn’t that she lied to him before — she evidently did not, precisely why Clark had lost his temper “I don’t say I don’t believe you.” she says in response to Clark discovering the backrooms, “I didn’t say lonely, I said alone.” When he rejects the idea of isolation. Simply under stress she is more blunt about what she had been conveying to him the whole time of knowing him as someone to help constantly. A heavy implication of her putting herself last is the release of her book and a public event, where she is seems to be teetering to instability she does not hesitate to go into a private room and take a pill she had stored privately for such an occasion — implying this is a repeated pattern for her SP5 is ironically, SO5 seems more plausible when this is evidently shown, just because she’s the anchor for Clark, she defends herself throughout the backrooms ≠ automatically SP5 she is more of a nuanced character than that. The psychology degree, the therapy practice, the publication of a self-help book, and her continued investment in Clark all suggest that knowledge is not being accumulated merely for personal security. She is constantly translating insight into something that can be given away.
