Alright, where does this guy show Te at all? He is all about fostering a twisted sense of social values and "kinship" - saying that the kin always shares with each other, and we need loyalty, and wanting to stamp down any lack of consensus and harmony. I also see Se in how he's an opportunist, quickly reacting to Alderpaw's group arriving, wanting to learn more and seizing the opportunity to go to Clan territory. So ESTP would also be more reasonable than ENTJ, though I'm going with ENFJ because Fe is his most dominant/obvious trait. Where is his Te? Is it because he makes plans and takes actions to accomplish his goals? Many characters of all types have to make plans, take actions and accomplish goals, and it doesn't make them Te dominant - and why is it always the villains who get labeled Te dom just because they have plans and goals, while heroic characters with plans and goals get recognized as the type they actually are? Is it because he is a villain and uses Fe for bad things so he must be "faking it"? If you believe a character isn't actually using the function they appear to use, then you have to actually be able to prove use of the function they are actually using! Darktail really does seem to have a genuine need for harmony and loyalty and all those social values, just in a twisted and manipulative way, in fact he's genuinely terrified of being betrayed and having the "kinship" fall apart, rather than faking it for a goal focused on logical efficiency. Also, him being typed as a 3 seems to be solely based on his superficial traits of being more suave/manipulative/making an image for himself compared to a stereotypical 8 or other type. But he doesn't match the core fear of 3 at all - he certainly makes himself seem a certain way as a strategy to get what he wants, but he isn't presenting an image because he feels he needs the image and people's reactions to it, or his achievements and what he does, to not be a worthless person (cat?), and he doesn't confuse the image he creates with his "real self". In contrast, Darktail has a very pronounced fear of trusting and being vulnerable which manifests in his suspicion of other cats betraying him, and his desire to control everyone else so that they won't be able to ever be let out of his sight and betray him. He displays the vice of lust in wanting more territory, more victories, just general rogue conquest not because he wants the accomplishment of victory like a 3 would but out of the desire for more. Furthermore, his actions are all motivated by the 8s trait of vengeance - an instinctive lashing out that is ultimately motivated as a sort of payback for the suffering in that person's childhood. Darktail motivates his attacks on the Clans as payback for them attacking first, and is ultimately motivated by how he sees in the Clans how Onestar hurt him in his childhood. Note that social 8, which uses their lust and antisocial tendencies in service of solidarity with a group (like Darktail and the kin), is archetypically presented was the child who becomes violent out of solidarity with the mother against the father, which is essentially Darktail's backstory.
