“Kanan Jarrus, Jedi Knight.” Man, it’s a bunch of poodoo how overtly toxic the hate for Star Wars: Rebels in; granted, I do understand the complaints about plot serialization and some character’s very cartoonishly applied roles, but there is some truly rich content to find. Perhaps I’m reaching, but I do think Filoni and co. allude to the bigger, grander picture of Star Wars in terms of comparing of Kanan and Ezra’s Master/Padawan relationship with that of Obi-Wan/Anakin, especially regarding the outcomes of their interpersonal relationships. I’ll touch upon the cognitive functions and the shared Enneagram of 6w5 between Kanan and Obi-Wan. Where Obi-Wan might have been a more insightful and principled Jedi Master according to dominant Ni converging of his understanding of the Force and Fe’s societal consideration and ethicality (as an INFJ), Kanan had a more individualistic and practical approach, harnessing the Force as a Jedi that solves more immediate problems as presently relevant to the environment, being a bit more of a… rebel (cue neurotic, Obi-Wan-obsessed maniacal laughter from Maul). With Anakin, Obi-Wan struggled to pass on his more careful insights of the societal morality of the Jedi and the Force to the physically active and emotional Anakin (ESFP); with Kanan, the frustration with Ezra was trying to teach him practical methods of learning the Force by concentrating in the present moment and physical exercise, getting frustrated with Ezra’s active imagination and curiosity with Ne and perhaps childish use of tertiary Te (with Ezra being an ENFP). In the end, it was Obi-Wan failing Anakin by being perhaps too encapsulated with his Ni-Fe vision and dedication to the philosophical and societal agenda of the increasingly complacent Jedi Order, while Kanan managed to develop his own Ni and perhaps (at least slightly) his inferior Fe to gain more “generous” insights on how to connect to Ezra as based Ti-Se observations and judgments. What’s really interesting is the shared Enneagram of 6w5; for Obi-Wan, it was his need to rely on the stable philosophical and organizational structure of the Jedi Order and the Code; this was the case for Kanan too as his personal “principles” were inherently based on the Jedi Order before it gave way to the Empire and Darth Sidious, he was sort of latches onto them as if to cling to something secure. Obi-Wan’s 6 loyalty was perhaps taken to the extremity, the Wing 5 element meaning his difficulty to adapt to Anakin’s 8w7 (right?) “Maverick” attitudes and behaviors - a colliding matter of individualistic autonomy that is resistant to control versus a more collective dedication to authority and principle. However, I think Kanan had an easier time integrating to Enneagram 9 and was able to “stretch” his security needs to be open-minded and adaptable to Ezra - this is not to disgrace Obi-Wan as he is a very wise and dedicated Jedi, but I think Kanan had an easier time with a more flexible sense of individualism that allowed him to meet Ezra in the middle, while Anakin’s emotion-fueled physical aggression collided with Obi-Wan’s more collectivistic principality. …yeah
