He thought modern opera was inferior to Peking opera because of his almost pathological fascination with art (as what Duan Xiaolou said, he was an "opera nut")(Fi), not because he believed traditions are all good(Si). He spent all his life obsessing perversely over what he believed in (his monstrous yet innocent feelings to Duan Xiaolou, his love for Peking Opera), and when he finally realised that what he had always believed in is nothing but a dream ("I am the fake King, but you are the real Yu Ji. " "I am a boy, not a girl. "), he calmly choosed to commit suicide. I don't think there is a more Fi-Ne character than him in any film I have ever seen. Forgot a lot of details but for many years this was always my favourite film.
