i’m gonna start this off by saying i’m an INTP, but i want to be as un-biased as possible. that being said, i did vote thomas as an INTP. the main reason for this being his showing of Ne not his Si or Se. there are multiple moments throughout the series where thomas used Se but also many times he uses Si. the best explanation for this being that he was thrown into a (seemingly) unknown world, so of course he would use Se to get in tune with his surroundings. like i said the use of Se is undeniable, but he uses a lot of Si as well. this makes it hard to distinguish what his more dominant function is, but my case should cover that. first off, i’m gonna say i definitely think he uses more thinking cognition then sensing. Ne is a form of intuition that plays with the inter connectivity of patterns and things made available. he has instances where he uses Ni, but i think that Ne is more prominent. to back this up i have three examples. 1) in the first book when he solved the maze by comparing the different maps of the maze to other. this obviously has to do with the inter connectivity of the problem. 2) he constantly thinks about a lot of the possible answers to why he is there and who put him there. he has a whole page or two in the book about just thinking about different possible answers. this last example has more to do with Si but incorporates Ne as well 3) when he uses the grievers stinger to get his memories back. he does this in order to learn more information a bout his situation and why he is there and based off of that he comes up with a bunch of possibilities as to what he did in wicked and why. it is important to note that he doesn’t stick to just one possibility leading up to this decision, but rather he keeps all of them in mind. some might say that he only did that because he had to or because it was a dire situation, but 1) it wasn’t like he had to do that he just decided to and 2) he complains constantly throughout the book about not having his memories. Additionally he uses his past experiences/ his “dreams” (Si) and trusts them and makes decisions based off of them. one big example of this is when he decides to trust teresa immediately because he saw her and spoke to her in his “sketchy” memories. he used his past experiences to make an important decision almost immediately (Si) instead of using the information he had at the moment and basing his ideas off of that (Se). i should also say that he is very in tune with his surroundings in terms of running and things like that (such as swinging from vines), but that doesn’t automatically make him an ISTP. anyone can be athletic regardless of their cognitive functions, and i myself am a good example of this. i should also add that thomas is in a very unique and strange environment. so he could use other functions if the situation called for it. for example using just extraverted sensing to dodge the griever impulsively. but doing things like that, relying on instinct and following sudden impulses using the information is something that even i, an “Se blind” INTP, do from time to time. i’m not denying that he does things like this , just that the INTP functions ( Ti Ne Si Fe) are more prominent in his decision making and problem solving. of course i can see why people type him as an ISTP, but i believe his dominant functions are more similar to that of an INTP’s. then again this is just my unprofessional opinion and i’m just an Se blind INTP, right?
