I would take ISTJ or even ESTJ over the types with Ni. His perception never gets caught up in abstractions and exalted ideas. He subjects himself to the kind of routine and formula that we would expect of an Si type. The setup in his basement demonstrates his need to carefully, methodically test every permutation of a possible solution (Si), rather than excluding some through theory and focusing on the most viable or likely solution (Ni) or simply testing random solutions depending on how an idea strikes him (Ne, Se).
