I can see INTJ, but I think INTP is just a little more likely. In the way he tells his story he doesn't exactly strike me as someone who had a plan, or who knew what he was doing. More like someone who went "oh, what if," and began building around that, never really stopping to consider the specifics—kinda reminiscent of a mad scientist in that regard. Most importantly, he says the following: "I'd hoped you would at least know that much by now. But I suppose [...] making these connections is not your role. Gertrude could be much the same at times." To me this sounds very much like a Ne-aux criticizing a Ni-dom (Gertrude)'s connection-making processes—both Ni and Ne thrive on making connections between things, but in very different ways, and Ne considers things Ni would leave out of consideration (and vice versa). Jurgen lampshading this makes me see this more as the dynamic between a Ni user and a Ne user than that of 2 Ni-doms. Also, and this is completely off of vibes, but his chill nonchalant matter-of-fact attitude about everything would make me say INTP rather than INTJ
