I have seen people in the comments saying things like “it depends on the genre,” and I agree with that. I, an INTP, consider myself a writer of mostly science fiction. I could also see types like INFJs writing psychology, or xSFJs writing romance. But I do think the majority of at least fiction writers are INFP. Fi is a function that values an individual person’s morals. We see this in lots of protagonists. They tend to challenge the norms, which sets the plot in motion and makes for a good story. As for Ne, the ideas behind these complex worlds with all of their lore are very obvious signs of Ne use. As a writer and Ne user myself, I can tell you that the vast majority of my ideas were something I thought of completely randomly that I thought might fit well in my writing. I have a chaotic mess of papers and notebooks everywhere that contain those ideas. And yes, I understand that there are some writers that have more of a connected, overall plan, but I have seen, both from personal experience and on social media, that writers tend to not really know what they’re doing and figure it out as they go. Not all writers are INFP, but I do think Fi and/or Ne are somewhere in the majority of writers’ function stacks.
