The ESFJ votes really bother me. I need y'all's perspective other than "He has a persona that is not his real self", something that any type can do. Genuinely, give me something debatable about the functions themselves. This whole series does a good job of separating those with different Perceiving Axes due to its main theme (Or at least apparent main theme since we botch the Hotel plotline in favor of the Angel Holy War). And that is to demonstrate everyone's positions in the subject of redemption and how that separates their perceptions. While I am not gonna limit Perceiving Axes to sides in the matter, it is the majority that demonstrates this. The common belief about redemption is that it's whack. Why is it the common belief? The obvious answer would be that the souls in Hell don't deserve or aren't capable of redemption due to either the actions they took to get there or their inherent nature as bad people. Now, how does this relate to Se-Ni and Ne-Si? Se's perception and information absorption at first hand goes hand to hand with Ockam's Razor. Ockam's Razor states that the most obvious answer is likely the correct one. Se and Ockam's Razor go hand to hand, due to Se being the perception of what it simply is in the present. Appearances don't lie, the presence does not lie. The most obvious conclusion is correct, and this is public knowledge. Se takes what is stated and makes sure to reinforce it, meanwhile Ne takes what is stated and asks how it can be explored differently, check what other possibilities and inferences are attached to what is. It is naturally much more curious and interested in deviation from the present. That being said, what are Angel's thoughts on redemption? "I'm choosing to be here, and I think it's all stupid. We're in Hell, toots. That's kinda the end of the road, ain't it?" Ok, so he reinforces the obvious and doesn't look to deviate from it, so we are inclined to believe Se over Ne, right? I mean Vaggie makes a statement that encapsulates Ne, it would be weird for an Ne inferior to show more Ne than an Ne tertiary, correct? "Well, maybe it doesn't have to be. Just because no one has made it out before, doesn't mean it's not possible." This is something lots of Se users in this show have in common. They say Charlie's idea is stupid by reinforcing the obvious (ESTP Adam, ENTJ Alastor, and of course, Angel), while Ne users may or may not like the idea, but not for obvious reasons (ENFP Charlie and ISXJ Vaggie agree with it, ENTP Lucifer likes the idea, initially is skeptical of its long return investment and learns to believe in it again). Obviously I don't mean Ne users support Charlie, Se users don't. It all is context dependant. But the reasons for their beliefs are the same, are the actual pattern, not the beliefs themselves. Se is a simple function by nature, it likes to be straight to the point and doesn't like to spend too much time elaborating, which makes Ockam's Razor their go to for perception. As to why I believe Ni lacks, well I'll get to it in a bit, but short answer is Fi-Te is more evident. While I certainly can understand the votes for ESTP, as I also voted for it before the show released Masquerade, Episode 4, I also like to remember why I decided to change my vote. He is trying to impersonate an ESTP. The Ti-Fe would come on how he uses others' arguments against themselves by integrating them into his own persona. An Fi-Te user however would defend their self image form external corruption. There are two lines from the Huskerdust trailer that come to mind when I talk about this. "I see right through you and all this BULLSH#T and how fake you are." "Me?! Fake?! Wow! I had no idea! Guess that's why I'm an ACTOR, dumba$$!" "Angel, you're a corn star." "A FAMOUS corn star." This is still him pretending he's ESTP. Instead of protecting his self identity with his own judgments about himself, he takes other people's judgments and without fear of corrupting that image, he uses it to his own arguing (That would usually show more Fe than Fi). But, as we find out thanks to Masquerade, Husk was correct. This was just a front to hide his real emotions. The real Angel then gets to face the same harsh judgments from ISTP Husk of what is the plain truth, but now he's not initially buying it, he actually feels offended, asks how is this supposed to make him feel better. Now, he has put up his own identity's defenses. His subject takes priority in the judgment of value, not the object. (A revelation of Fi over Fe). Not to mention that the point Husk makes here is the use of Ti-Fe (You suck, that's just the truth (Ti), but we can be losers together because I also suck, isn't that better? (Fe)). However, Angel is not initially buying it. Instead of seeing that similarity to Husk as a positive thing, he initially feels offended by it and only turns it around after knowing that he'll be accepted for who he actually is, for his individual quirks (Fi>Fe).
