You all have really good arguments, I'm really glad we are all kind of in the same train of thought (I'm happy to see you all have read the book, so the votes are really based on observations). So just to add a pov, just finished the book. I was really in doubt about him being a 9 or a 5, and what made me decide it was that I perceived him more of a head than a gut type. Of course, he perceives the world with his senses (smell) but he spends more time processing the information and playing with it in his "mental castle" than perceiving it for its own sake. Very tough call... But the time he spent with that woman during childhood (can't remember her name) and he just abstracts the real world, pushing his physical needs to a minimum in order to survive. Also during the cave, he needed to do the bare minimum to survive and play with his mind. I suppose a type nine would need more comfort.
