how is he a ne user? from the start to the end, he never showed any traits of being a ne user or expressed curiosity towards his surroundings - all he wanted to do is quickly get the keys to his house. he's not happy at the fact that his friends stole his keys and made him go through so many obstacles, and especially the way that he had to explore the creepy barn just to get his keys. he is focused on what's in the present (an obvious se) and works towards his goal in a straightforward way (this could also be seen as his tertiary te). if anything, he's an ESFP.
