i have the feel that people are voting her emotional center just because shes a woman. the whole movie is her plotting to go after the richest man available and get money out of him, because the thing she cares the most about, is financial security. she mocks dorothy during the movie for only wanting love, not money. she starts to seek marriage for dorothy because that's the way that women with their lifestyle gain financial security. she loves to make allies for herself, and she does that through men, although she's only using them for security. lorelei's desire was never to be loved, only to be safe financially. she decided to marry gus not only because of his dad's money, but also because he's the only guy who admires her wits. she says herself at the end of the movie that she's quite smart, but men wouldn't like that, so she has to be dumb to get what she wants. when she's fighting with gus about him not trusting her unconditionally on her plans, she tells him "its men like you who made me the way that i am", showing that at some point, perhaps when she was in little rock, she believed that love would be enough to guarantee her security. she soon found out with a heartbreak, that only money does that. her entire character is about finding means to gather resources. ego-planning+ego-flattery+ego-resentment. they really hate to see a woman being intellectual center.. the real SX2 here is gus, not lorelei.
