Disclaimer here: I haven't read this arc, and have just been following the spoilers/detailed chapter summaries on the forum, so I know the details of what happens. For this reason I'm not voting myself on this character. There is also a mild spoiler for the last TBC book here. Has anyone considered 4 for the enneagram, particularly the countertype sp4? The countertype, like all 4s, is still motivated by a sense of being flawed, different, set apart from others and a desire to dwell in their suffering and melancholy and "special" identity to give them some type of purpose in life. This fits with how Shadowsight is manipulated by Ashfur by being told he is special and has a great destiny, while at the same time he is sometimes gloomy about being isolated from others and being the one who has to suffer alone, and fears that his difference from others only makes him flawed and monstrous (at the end of the most recent book, he is fearing that his ability to "see into the shadows" only makes him belong in the shadows, someone connected to evil who only makes things worse and is unfit to be at the lake). However, for sp 4s this focus on suffering manifests as wanting to suffer without complaining, often throwing themselves into danger to give their lives meaning through it (for this reason the subtype key is 'dauntless/reckless" or "tenacity'). This describes Shadowsight's constant risk-taking and throwing himself into suffering and danger at first to prove himself as special and then to make up for what he's done wrong, and general feeling of "needing" to suffer alone physically and emotionally. He does have a sense of wanting to make things right like a 1, but at least from the chapter summaries I don't see a sense of anger that the world isn't the way he wants it to be or constant need to control and reform himself and others.
