Chen Peisi (陈佩斯),born February 1, 1954, also known as the Master of Puritang, is a Chinese comedian, sketch comedy and stage actor. He is born in Nong'an, Jilin Province, with ancestral roots in Ningjin, Hebei Province. He is a first-class actor of the China Broadcasting Art Troupe and a former director of the China Film Association. In the early 1980s, Chen Peisi starred in many comedy films featuring the character "Erzi," forming China's first comedy film series, the "Erzi Series." In 1984, he and his partner Zhu Shimao became an instant sensation after performing the skit "Eating Noodles" on CCTV's Spring Festival Gala. Subsequently, the two collaborated on numerous skits that won many awards and were well-received by audiences, gradually developing their unique performance style.
