Still a bit torn between INFJ and INFP (though INFP's my tentative conclusion), but I don't think he's a 6 at all. He seems like a pretty solid social 9 to me. Even the way he's often kind of passive aggressive, but also prone to bursts of legitimate anger that shows he's holding it deep down (in contrast to the way a 6's anxiety is always boiling at the surface and manifests in small angry outbursts throughout the day - Frank's a great example). I think Radar and Mulcahy's typings on here are switched around, as Radar certainly comes across as more of a 6 than a 9, and vice versa for Father M. But then again, I've still got plenty of episodes to watch. I think Frank, Henry, and Radar are great examples of 6s, and even Klinger with his 6 wing, and next to them, you can really see how very mellow Mulcahy is. But he does certainly have moments of neuroticism, which 9s ARE capable of, though it's also worth noting he's in a stressful situation and his mental health does suffer a bit over the series, and that could definitely be attributed to disintegration into 6. I also think a religious 6 would be muchhhh less likely to bend the rules of the bible if it best suited the interests of those around him. I think that's a biiiiig tell. Also reminds me of Ni-Fe and Ni-Ti, which makes me wonder about that INFJ possibility. But it could also just be Fi. The way he's the camp confidant is very social 9, too. He disregards himself in favor of being a sounding board and a source of compassion and understanding to everyone in the camp. But at the same time he never fully disregards himself in favor of just being some kind of vessel for God, as he still has plenty of personal identity we can see in his hobbies, like piano playing, boxing, and studying theology. Thus the INFP consensus. I think an INFJ would be more inclined to get caught up in identifying near-exclusively with doing God's will. Mulcahy's INFP 9 is probably what helps him be such an unobtrusive and respectable clerical figure, one that I've never seen an atheist scoff at, both in-universe and among fans. Like, I'm Jewish and agnostic and I think Catholicism/Christianity is one of the world's greatest evils, but he's what it'd represent in an ideal world.
