Being a huge fan of the game and manga, I would say the anime does him a bit dirty here and there. He DOES show his more helpful side to others to gain a sense of appreciation from those he wants it from most. Like his devotion to what he BELIEVES Father Gray's mission is. Or his more obvious inclination towards Rachel during the main series after realizing what Father Gray wants basically means Danny would serve no purpose to him no matter what he does. His understanding of others is often a bit of a projection, but that doesn't necessarily point to being an introverted function dom, as being Fe dom doesn't necessarily mean always being RIGHT in knowing how others are feeling. His projection on Rachel is entirely correct, for the most part. It's one of the reasons why she was so afraid of having him talk to Zack, who she wanted to 'forgive' her of her sins as a perceived 'God.' Similar to how Danny views Rachel mainly through the lens of 'The only person who ever showed me love had nothing left, so the only people who could show me love or 'forgive' me for my sin of having only one eye must be someone with nothing left.' Like, it's correct, but he blinds himself in one aspect of it, and provides what he believes she wants based on that assumption, rather than seeing her as her, and her wants as hers. If that makes sense. He only sees her as a vessel of his mother and himself for him to sort of 'mother' as a personal repentance, you know? He wants to be seen as someone others can appreciate and look to as a 'God' (successful) especially to those he himself views as 'Gods,' like Father Gray and Rachel (his mother), basically (2w3). He bases all of his 'devotions' on what he assumes they want and what he believes they will want (Fe-Ni). In stress, he tries to rationalize it all in spite of his reckless actions near the end (Se-Ti). All until he finally gets some semblance of appreciation in his final moments by Father Gray (the anime did this scene so bad, but the manga was the best, I'd say). I dunno. Considering the events of Episode 0, and the way he behaves in the game and manga, I'm pretty convinced of the fact he was just an unhealthy 2w3 ENFJ during the main story, and I'm a bit sad the anime kind of muddles people's views on that. His mindset is a lot more obvious and easy to break down in the manga, I think. Depression, projection, parental issues and all. 😭
