let's approach this rationally and respectfully... I've tried my best to structure this argument thoroughly. Here are the basic definitions for each cognitive function, I would like us to reference this every time we make an inference about his cognition Si/Introverted Sensing - Specific and concrete perception of internal world. Se/Extraverted Sensing - Specific and concrete perception of external world. Fi/Introverted Feeling - Subjective codec; internal emotional data & harmony. Fe/Extraverted Feeling - Subjective codec; external emotional data & harmony. Ni/Introverted Intuition - Kaleidoscopic perception of internal world. Ne/Extraverted Intuition - Broad & plethoric perception of external world. Ti/Introverted Thinking - Objective codec; internal logical order. Te/Extraverted Thinking - Objective codec; external logical order. ~~~~~~~~~~ The main problem people are facing with typing Nakamura is regarding the placement of his Fe...is it the inferior Fe of an INTP or is it the unconscious Fe of an INFP? Let's define what each of those terms means: The biggest misconception among people in the comments is that a person's inferior function is one that they are "bad" at... this can't be further from the truth. At an inferior (or oppositional position, as I like to call it), the function that is directly opposite to the dominant function, is the point of highest conscious tension for a type. For an INTP, Fe is acting antagonistically to Ti. That manifests as them seeing the consensus, the collective feelings of other people as a sort of hindrance to their refinement of their own logical framework. Most actual INTPs can relate to this sort of social caution, where they feel the need to minimize how much they interact with others so they can focus on refining their internal musings. They are aware of Fe, engage with social niceties and can entertain small talk but they simply do not prioritize it over Ti. INTPs can be overwhelmed by socialization that they don't seek out themselves. But, Fe being inferior doesn't mean they are bad or awkward at it. Now... this should be enough to tell us that Nakamura isn't an INTP... but let's discuss the INFP side anyway. INFPs don't have conscious Fe. They're Fi dominants... led by their personal limbic preferences. Their interaction style is to actively asses the external world with respect to what relates/resonates with them. INFPs are types that are very familiar with their emotional leanings and needs without having a need to intellectualize them or embed them within a logically defined framework. Fe for them happens unconsciously, as a consequence of their Fi-Ne manifesting externally. They can try to express themselves, but since those emotions come from an excessively subjective place, they unfortunately may sometimes come across as weird and awkward. They can fantasize about different scenarios where everything goes right... this is the INFP's Ne trying to soothe Fi with positive possibilities. This is what Nakamura deals with throughout what I've seen. He knows what he wants, what he likes but he is unaware of how to palatably express himself. This isn't the antagonistic Fe of the INTP, but more of the unconscious and uncontrolled Fe of the INFP. He simply isn't naturally aware of how to socialize in a proper manner... which resonates more with Fi dom than Fe inf. I hope my argument made sense. Please, do tell me what you think!
