Biographie
Availability heuristic is a mental shortcut or cognitive bias where individuals rely on information that is easily available or readily accessible in their memory when making decisions or judgments about the likelihood of events or the frequency of occurrences. In essence, people tend to judge the probability or frequency of events based on how easily examples or instances of those events come to mind. If something is more mentally available or vividly remembered, individuals might perceive it as more common or likely to occur, regardless of its actual probability. For instance, if there has been extensive media coverage of a specific type of crime, people might overestimate its frequency because those instances are more available in their memory due to the media exposure, even if the actual statistical probability of encountering that crime is low.
