Biographie

The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which individuals with low ability or expertise in a particular domain tend to overestimate their competence. This bias arises from a lack of metacognitive ability—meaning, individuals have difficulty recognizing their own incompetence and thus tend to overestimate their skills or knowledge. Conversely, individuals with high competence in a domain may underestimate their abilities because they assume others possess a similar level of expertise. In other words, highly competent individuals might assume tasks or skills are easier or more straightforward for others than they actually are. The Dunning-Kruger effect essentially illustrates an inverse relationship between competence and self-assessment, where those with lower ability tend to rate themselves more highly compared to their actual proficiency, while highly competent individuals might underestimate their own competence relative to others.
