𝐎𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐒𝐎𝟒 — 𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝟒 𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭. (SPOILERS AHEAD) >> 𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐗𝟓 Honestly, I see SO4 as suitable for Oliver, SX5 (and the E5 core in general) doesn't explain his character entirely. Yes, he has avarice and relies on knowledge, but that is not his main motivation, I see SX5 as the deceitful image from the beginning. "The Sexual Five expresses the passion of avarice through searching for the ideal or ultimate relationship. But, they can become too picky about the people to whom they want to be close, sometimes requiring the “right person” to pass a lot of tests. They have a romantic, artistic, or imaginative streak, and a strong connection to their emotions, but they usually communicate them only indirectly through some medium of self-expression. Unlike the other Type 5 subtypes, they have a greater need for intimacy under the right circumstances—usually when they find someone they trust who will appreciate them despite their flaws." That's not his main motivation, he's not searching it. Rather, he's concerned about staying in Saltburn and being one of them, even though he knows and deep down feels he isn't, at the same time he loves Felix in an obsessive and confusing way that doesn't match an ideal and ultimate relationship, but rather an envious and lustful one. >> 𝐄𝟒 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐞 The entire movie is constructed to the idea of Oliver's inferiority and envy, even visually. It's illustrated with many people purposefully being taller than him and the camera making the scenarios and objects seen bigger than him — the idea of him being inferior and "looked down". He's also a image type. That's indicated, per example, in many mirror scenes shown in the movie and his reflections, which it's a ludic way to show to the viewer how he's troubled with his image. "While the party had a lot of guests, hardly anyone knew who he was and couldn't remember his name when singing Happy Birthday. Oliver also runs into Farleigh, who he did not know would be invited to the party despite being kicked out, further showing how irrelevant he is at Saltburn." It definitely reminds me of E4's need to be remembered. To be significant. It hurts him very deeply all the times he's reminded that he'd never belong to Saltburn. >> 𝐒𝐎𝟒 𝐎𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 His obsession with Felix resonates with the E4's envy: desiring him vs. wanting to be him. Actually, his relationship as a whole is very SX4 coded although I think he's a SO4, as he watched Felix have sex with other girls with much anger (resulted from envy); he describes how much he loved him but also hated him.
