Biographie
He is an inventor of mechanical devices, with a trail of successes in Paris and St Petersburg. He is back in England with vain hopes of getting a patent on a device he invented, and he has a company based in Bleeding Heart Yard. He first meets Arthur Clennam in the Circumlocution Department. He is friends with Mr Meagles, and takes on Arthur Clennam as the man of finances and a partner in his business.
