Biographie
A dominant chord is a major triad built on the fifth scale degree of either a major scale or a minor scale. It has an innate desire to resolve to the tonic chord and when it does, it sounds satisfying. If we get this chord on any other scale degree, we are instead talking about a secondary dominant that should resolve to a chord that is a fifth below it.
