There are long passages where Alex or people close to him talk about how he uses work, school, partying, sex, alcohol, etc as an escape from his everyday anxieties. Ik the author says that he’s an 8w7, but I feel like he’s just a little angry and a very driven 7. He integrates at 5 with his intellectual pursuits, like when he takes interest in lgbt history when he realizes he’s bisexual or when he and Henry get really into sending each other love quotes, and disintegrates with 1 with his scattered perfectionistic tendencies with schoolwork/work like when he’d steal his friend’s adderall in hs. I don’t see any of the internal motivations of an 8 in his character other than he’s independent and assertive, which are overlapping traits with 7s.
