Everyone agrees that Halsin is an ENFJ, but I don't think anyone has taken the time to explain his functions. I will do so.... (Spoilers Ahead) Dominant Fe: Halsin has very clear Fe. As Fe prioritizes external values and social harmony, Halsin values all of these and uses them to dictate every aspect of his behavior. He's considerate of the feelings of others, respectful of everyone's thoughts and always listens to other ideas. If the protagonist asks him a question, he patiently answers it as best he can. If he approaches them with the idea of polyamory, Halsin makes sure that they check with any other characters that they have been involved with. Halsin finds his home in living in harmony with others and his surroundings. This manifests itself primarily in his desire to live in harmony with nature. Halsin looks at the world through a lens of the wilderness and considers himself a part of it, rather than as an individual separate from it. His view on this is so strong that he doesn't speak for himself on a personal level, only as a piece in the greater scheme of things. Not to mention that the natural charm of Fe is partially what made him such a great leader in Emerald Grove. Auxiliary Ni: Halsin exhibits Ni as working hand-in-hand with his Fe. He speaks in metaphors and references the big picture in the frame of nature. When discussing his reasons for being polyamorous, he compares himself to a bear and how it's simply in their nature to have several mates over their lifespan. When asked about the topic of monogamy, he doesn't reject the idea because it's demonstrated by the behavior of wolves, but he states it simply isn't in his nature. Halsin carries with him this overarching idea of nature as the foundation for his Ni and it builds his entire understanding of the world. Tertiary Se: As an Se user, Halsin takes in his observations as they appear, but his usage of it allows his Fe-Ni to function more fruitfully. Halsin demonstrates this by how he observes animals and plants and how they all function in the wilderness. Halsin operates on his observations of the world, but as a Ni user, he finds an innate meaning and symbolism behind them and fits them into his outlook on life. As forementioned, he uses metaphors of nature to explain the way he thinks, and these are all events and concepts he has observed in his surroundings. Halsin is extremely aware of these and his own sensations. A moment where this comes to mind is when he explains to the protagonist that passions are a part of the innate connection with nature. Therefore, restraint can be necessary, but ultimate denial of them is futile and a denial of the inner connection with nature itself. This was a very Ni-Se quote. Inferior Ti: As previously mentioned, Halsin doesn't speak for himself as an individual, he speaks as small part of nature which he longs to be fully immersed in. Rather than forging his own framework to understand the world, he lets a preexisting concept serve as his understanding of the world. All his metaphors and parallels come from external observations and events that he has seen outside of himself. The few times I could see some usage of Ti are only present to serve his other three functions, namely his Fe and Ni. Overall, Halsin is a textbook example of an ENFJ. He's kind, warm-hearted and a natural leader and confidant. I would say he's the most level-headed and polite character that can join the protagonist.
