The first and most obvious thing to note is that the SG-1 team is a blatantly obvious representation of the four basic temperaments. Daniel is the Catalyst/Idealist. Sam is the Rational/Theorist. Jack is the Improviser/Artisan. And Teal’c is the Guardian/Stabilizer. Then, if we can all agree about Sam and Daniel that they both show convincing displays of Ni, Ti, and Fi, we all work from an 8 function model of type, and you put any stock in the ideas of Linda Berens, the clincher on Sam and Daniel being INTP and INFP respectively comes from their reflexive and fluent use of the Informative Interaction Style. Before I accepted Interaction Styles into my framework, I already had a very strong hunch about the two of them, but was a little wishy washy about alternatives within the temperament. Now, with the added layer, it’s like being whacked in the face by a volleyball how inescapable the conclusion seems.
Biographie
The team archaeologist and linguist. The latter aspect wasn't of much use in the series when it turned out that all the aliens spoke English, but he found his use in translating written text and providing exposition about ancient artifacts or mythology. He is an idealist and pacifist — in Seasons 4-5, often to the point of being a Messiah — and prefers to resolve conflicts via diplomacy rather than force of arms, often clashing with O'Neill as a result. Has a habit of repeatedly dying and coming Back from the Dead thanks to Applied Phlebotinum or intervention of Sufficiently Advanced Aliens. In fact, when Michael Shanks decided to leave and later reconsidered, he stayed dead (and ascended) for an entire season.
