𝗞𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗗𝗘 𝗜𝗦 𝗦𝗢𝟰 ━━ [1/4] While SP4 is an understandable typing for her, I don’t believe it to be a true representation of her character. In my argument I’m going to try to debunk not only SP4 as a subtype, but the self preservation instinct as a whole. I encourage open mindedness when reading, as I am aware the vast majority of PDB believes Kanade to be SP4. 𝗦𝗢𝟰 > 𝗦𝗣𝟰 ✎ ━ “He is extremely private, and only talks about himself and his intimate experience with very few people, as he does not trust others to understand him. Since childhood he has experienced not being understood, not being seen, having the feeling that no one is aware of his needs, and therefore, as an adult, he has no faith that there is someone who can understand him deeply.” 🎼 ━ “I have no right to feel this sad… I’m the one that did this to dad.” ╰┈➤ The majority of PDB thinks of SO4 as a type that is overly expressive of their emotions and suffering, however this is just a stereotype. SO4 is filled with shame, even of their own emotions, and is very conscious of how others perceive them. They are not a type that would dump their emotions onto others, they don’t want to come off as irritating or a burden. Kanade shows clear shame and guilt over her emotions, denying herself the right to be sad about her father because she believes it’s her fault anyways. This is all very reminiscent of SO4, and it’s safe to say that it plays a major factor in why she hardly opens up; she sees it as her own fault and doesn’t see herself as deserving of expressing and feeling her emotions. ✎ ━ “He constantly forgets about repeated successes and continues to demolish and injure himself. He brings back memories of "neutral situations," which he judges to be failures that he never gets rid of. It fixes in his memory with incredible ease the scenes of situations in which he has failed, while literally erasing those in which he has achieved his goals brilliantly and letting the compliments and praises he has received pass by, always finding a reason to devalue them or downplay them.” ✎ ━ “I always assumed tasks of great responsibility: leading teams, bringing quality innovators to educational centers where they carried out work projects, managing conflicts, organizing and directing training sessions for hundreds of teachers. The commitment I put in was always beyond my limits, in a challenge that never ended. All the accolades, successes, and many accolades I received did not change my internal state of lack, of not measuring up anyway, with the malaise and unacknowledgedness that had devastated me in my childhood.” 🎼 ━ “I saved them…? It may just be one person… But I’m glad for them… But this still isn’t good enough… I have to keep composing. More and more and more… And save as many as I can.” 🎼 ━ "But... It couldn't save Yuki! ... My songs... weren't enough...! They reached... but there's no point to that...!" ╰┈➤ Another common stereotype on this app is about SO4s being lazy. While they can be at their worst when they have nothing to motivate them, when they have something they’re passionate about they are described to put in tremendous amounts of effort. Kanade is repeatedly seen pushing herself past her limits and denying her successes. Nothing is ever enough, her internal lack stays the same no matter how many people she saves. She always looks to the people she didn’t save rather than acknowledging the ones she has. ✎ ━ “Already in childhood, the social E4 feeds the illusion that he can save the people around him, even if they hurt and humiliate him. He believes that by saving them, giving them a chance at redemption, he can save himself. Thus, he identifies with the other, projecting his need to be saved, as if he wanted to "eat" his loved ones.” 🎼 ━ "Selfishly... I thought, if Yuki felt like she'd been saved by my songs... Then maybe, I'd also feel like I'd been saved..." ╰┈➤ Reading this quote, it’s clear that Kanade feels the need to be saved, regardless of how well she hides it. SO4s feel the desire to be saved through others, which we see in the way Kanade desperately tries to save Mafuyu. I see people use this to type her SP4. However, contrary to popular belief, this is not something any SP4 would desire. Instead, they detach themselves from their suffering and convince themselves they can do things on their own. ✎ ━ “It cannot be shown with illnesses or limitations, it is a lot of suffering for his narcissism. «If I suffer I am weak, I am contemptible»” ✎ ━ “From their earliest years they manifest that they are independent, although they have an attitude towards life and in their way of relating as if "something was owed to them".” ╰┈➤ To sum these quotes up, SP4 refuses to let themself be or feel weak in any way. They convince themselves they don’t need help and that they can do everything independently. They would not feel the need to be saved in the first place, let alone openly acknowledge it like Kanade has.
