Biographie
Xiang Yan (項燕) was a great general of Chu during the late Warring States period, known for his courage, strategic skill, and unwavering loyalty. Born into a distinguished Chu family, he was the father of Xiang Chao, Xiang chan, Xiang Xiang Liang, Xiang bu and grandfather of Xiang Yu and Xiang lu. He led Chu’s forces against the invading Qin army, inspiring his soldiers through personal bravery. After a final, unsuccessful attempt to turn the tide of battle, Xiang Yan committed suicide in 223 BCE, marking a tragic blow to Chu’s resistance. His dedication and sacrifice left a lasting legacy, admired by both his troops and the people of Chu, and his spirit of defiance lived on in his grandson Xiang Yu.
