I think he's not evil to the core.The Courage Square Massacre has lots of unanswered questions.He also is teaching Morrigan the wondrous arts and taking care of her feelings.I think there will be a significant change in his character later on in the series.There isn't always complete good or evil,there is this grey zone in between.If we judge a modern day character just by sth they have done without giving thought to their reasons,half of the main characters would be judged as villians.
Biographie
Ezra Squall is a Wundersmith and the main antagonist of the Nevermoor series. He was banished a hundred years ago[1] from the fantastic world of Nevermoor for killing innocent people and doing terrible things during the Great War.
