“In kindergarten, my teacher asked us what we were going to do over summer vacation, and I wrote down “Fear”.” Ben is not a 2; he’s a type 6. He says it himself that he’s the fearful one in his relationship with Kate. While anyone can be fearful and anxious and not be a type 6, this fear and anxiety rules Ben’s life. I think he was probably more of a counterphobic 6 when he was younger, but grew up more phobic. Ben prefers stability and what he knows for sure over the unknown, or taking risks. He grew up in the same town he lives in, and isn’t the best at confronting others or standing up for himself. Sometimes Ben will have a burst of spontaneity and take risks, but he is centered around staying safe and certain. His whole character arc is him coming out of his fear and into courage in his actions.
