It’s heartening to see that he has been correctly typed as an ESTJ, though I have to wonder where in the world the single ENTP vote is coming from. There’s enough information about Artemis Fowl Senior prior to his rescue to indicate clear Te dominance. Excerpts from book 3 (The Eternity Code): “The doctors withdrew, disarmed by his personality. I was surprised by this approach. Charm had never been my father’s weapon of choice. He had previously achieved his aims by bulldozing over anybody stupid enough to stand in his way.” (81) “It wasn’t always this way. In the past, one needed valid grounds to visit my father. Of course he wasn’t generally available, and even when he was, his time was limited. One did not burst into the Fowl study without good reason.” (155) His emphasis on power and control is seen here, choosing to brute force his way through people instead of bother charming them (as tertiary Fe would do). The emphasis on formality and demand that his time is not wasted — indeed, that he saw spending time with his son in any manner not related to any “valid” reasons — screams Te dominant. In fact, the only time he spent with his son was to impart practical wisdom to him, specifically financial. He was, as far as Artemis II’s memory goes, a very severe and work-focused man. Someone who emphasized power and control. Wealth. “Ah, yes. Back to business. This was the father I remembered.” (81) The first thing Artemis does is to inform his father of the family’s stock portfolio, of the family wealth and how Artemis has managed these important matters in his father’s absence. This is what he expects his father to want to hear about. Artemis II’s disbelief at his father’s change further characterizes his father as a Te dominant man. “I could not believe what I was hearing. One of my most persistent memories was of Father repeatedly quoting the family motto, Aurum Est Potestas: ‘Gold Is Power.’ And now here he was, turning his back on Fowl principles. What had the magic done to him?” (82) This quotation also provides the first suggestion that Artemis Fowl Senior is TeSi. While on its own not enough to reach such a conclusion, his father “repeatedly quoting the family motto” does read as Si traditionality and emphasis on how things have been in the past. This conclusion is reinforced by Artemis Senior’s later dialogue: “‘I never got involved before. I always thought the world could not be changed.’ Father’s gaze was intense, burning with new passion. ‘But things are different now. My priorities are different. I intend to seize the day. Be the hero that every father should be.’” (156) Dominant Te and auxiliary Si can be seen in his previous outlook on life, in his position that the world cannot be changed. His conclusion was that he should continue holding onto the Fowl family’s power the way they always had. The system worked, no need to change things. A few years prior to the book, he’d seen an opportunity to expand the family’s business ventures into Russia (tertiary Ne beginning to develop?), which unfortunately led to his kidnapping. During his time in the Arctic, Artemis Senior says, he rethought his priorities. “‘While I was a prisoner, I thought about my life, how I had wasted it gathering riches whatever the cost to my family and others around me. In a man’s life, he gets few chances to make a difference. To do the right thing. To be a hero, if you will. I intend to become involved in that struggle.’” (156) It seems that his time in captivity — perhaps also influenced by healing via fairy magic — led Artemis Senior to contact his inferior Fi and decide to incorporate it into his life to an uncharacteristic degree. That, coupled with his newfound obsession with principles, concepts like nobility and heroism, optimism for a new future, can be seen as the emergence of his INFP subconscious (which Artemis is deeply discomfited by).
