I think Tillich might be a type 6. I haven't read his original works yet, but this is the impression I got from listening to review-lectures on his philosophy. This is the exsistentialist that put anxiety at a core of exsistential conflict, and proposed courage as an antidote to it. His intimate affiliation with christianity and the great importance he gives to the question of authority and collectivism in man's life futher suggests the E6 charater of Tillich. Interesting enough, the 3 forms of anxiety he postulates in his work "Courage to be" align well with the 3 instinctual variants of type 6. Anxiety of death and fate (sp6) - a feeling of powerlessness in the face of looming death and cruel fate; Anxiety of guilt and condemnation (sx6) - a fear of not living up to your ideal image of self (even if that image is not fully clear). Not becoming the hero of your life story. Anxiety of meaninglessness and emptiness (so6) - an anxiety that whatever action you pursue, whatever creative change you bring to the world or objective you invest in has ultimately no meaning. This is the anxiety that drives people to indentify with the "transindividual" - becoming a dogmatic follower of belief system of some sort, to free oneself of responsibility of making individual moral choices. Paul Johannes Tillich (August 20, 1886 – October 22, 1965) was a German-American Christian existentialist philosopher and Lutheran Protestant theologian who is widely regarded as one of the most influential theologians of the twentieth century. Among the general public, Tillich is best known for his works The Courage to Be (1952) and Dynamics of Faith (1957), which introduced issues of theology and culture to a general readership.
