edit: im glad to see he’s finally sx2 and the rise in ESFP votes but regardless, im completely rewriting this whole argument over a year later cus there’s just a lot of things i could’ve phrased better…. so anyway, here’s a new and improved torao sx2 argument! (spoilers for the main story) if enneagram is all about the “unhealthy” side of a person, then let’s take a look at torao’s trauma that he reveals in part 6: torao explains that ever since he was a child, everytime he found something that he loved and strived for, his family would reject it, saying that he wasn’t fit for it or that he couldn’t do it. he knew his family loved him and said this for his own good, yet he still felt hurt. he eventually grew up absolutely terrified of voicing the things he wanted to do, because he feared the constant rejection he would receive. this is why he always listens to the requests of others, rather than his own, which is very standard for the e2. this leads him to demonstrating the e2’s defense mechanism, which is repression. they hide their feelings, needs, and desires in order to maintain an acceptable behavior and image. “The good-looking, rich and carefree third son. Just messing around. Being like that made me feel at ease… When I think about wanting to do something, that’s so unlike that “me”, I get anxious and can’t calm down…More so, if I failed and caused people trouble, it’d be unbearably shameful to see, right? ‘I’d rather do what’s being asked of me. That way, I’ll be loved.’ That’s what I thought…” (p6 ch8) now let’s move onto torao being a sexual 2, which is the most seductive of the e2s, using seduction as a form of manipulation to get what they want. the anime (as of right now) doesn’t show many of torao’s sx2 traits, however I believe his relationship with hanamaki sumire demonstrates this tactic of manipulation as well as the sx2’s tendency to make empty promises. torao seduces Hanamaki Sumire to manipulate her into being a pawn in ryo’s plan. and at some point, he offers to marry her, which she truly believed would happen, but obviously that ended up being a false promise. to follow up with the sx2’s manipulation, this is again evident in part 4 when zool is taken to jail in the Northmeir palace, and torao flirts with one of the maids to set them all free. honestly, i think this is why torao was voted sx8 in the first place since they’re also very aggressive and manipulative. however, torao doesnt desire to be in control of a relationship; rather, he just desires to be loved. pride in the sx2 results in a concern about their desirability. they manifest a “give and take” relationship with others—in other words, they give love in order to get it back. however, they become impulsive when their pride is hurt and the love they expect isn’t given back. this is written all over torao, and it’s the most evident with his impulsiveness and pettiness which i’ll show with quotes below: “Torao Mido: I stuck up for you when that ice queen from Re:vale barged into our dressing room, and you still consulted him instead of talking to me. Torao has a load of pride, so he’d also start sulking super easily!” (p6 ch5) there’s a lot more instances, but i think these quotes show my point. anyway, these are basically the reasons why he’s sx2. i tried humoring sx3 for him, however he’s so impulsive that i don’t think vanity is his main concern.
