I believe Rowley is actually SO7 rather than SO9, so here are my arguments: People seem on interpret his habit of putting up with the shenanigans of Greg as a go-with-the-flow, 9-ish kind of attitude. However, I think the reasons for that are different. I do believe that he has E9 in his tritype, but I also think he is led by an E7 kind of attitude, enjoying the various questionable situations that Greg creates because he is able to find something fun in all of them, and also because he wants to avoid any negative interactions that would arise if he would object to them. These are traits of E7: spontaneity, escapism, idealization. Rowley seems to admire Greg to an extent, which is also because he is capable of seeing his positive traits with ease, or even filter the bad traits and view them through rose-colored glasses. We do, however, see the sin of gluttony in Rowley, because some of his conflicts with Greg are partially caused by the fact that Rowley, with his E7 habit of wishing to make the most of any situation, can get angry when Greg puts him in a secondary position, prohibiting him from experiencing everything he wants to. Don't get me wrong, this is kind of justified, as no one deserves to be belittled like that, so it is not a ”sin” in the religious sense or anything. You know how Enneagram types work in terms of that. Sometimes he also displays a childishly possessive attitude toward his belongings, probably because he fears that someone who interferes with them might take away his possibility of fully enjoying them. Now onto his subtype, let's use some info from this article: https://wiki.personality-database.com/books/enneagram/page/social-7-in-detail In one of Naranjo's works (”Golosos, tramposos, soñadores y charlatanes”, as cited in the article), the SO7 is described as someone who needs validation in order to fully express their experiential and gluttonous nature. Since E7 is prone to idealization, the SO7 idealizes social roles and seeks to fill a role that is recognized as something great. We see that in Rowley, who literally describes himself as an ”Awesome Friendly Kid” in his own diary. Not only that, but he looks for attention and validation. He imitates his favorite singer because he sees him as someone to look up to, and also as someone who is socially-accepted as an admirable person (Joshie's songs are also shown to have very positive, educational lyrics). He takes civic duties seriously (unless Greg presents him with a funny way of defying them, to which Rowley often seems to be oblivious, due to his blind trust in Greg), and wants to be seen as a kind, well-raised kid. We also see the E7 trait of being thrilled by new experiences and acting rather eccentric during them. There is a certain part in one of the books (don't remember which one) when he goes to church with Greg's family and his behavior there is very whimsical, not taking things seriously and fooling around. I feel like if he was E9, he wouldn't have acted like that as it would have been disruptive of the peace in the room. If he was E9 he would have simply blended in and act like everybody else, but he doesn't. Anyway, if you read the article above, you will find more traits that describe Rowley. "ZOO-WEE-MAMA!" Rowley Jefferson is Greg best friend and is usually the deuteragonist of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. He is best known for being a good best friend to Greg. Rowley is quite immature and seems a bit naive, but his charming, cheerful and innocent nature made him more popular with other students (particularly the girls) than Greg had. In the novels, Greg primarily uses Rowley for personal gain, though they are legitimate friends nonetheless. Despite the fact Greg often uses him (carry his stuff, give him piggy-rides, write English work for him and scout for dog droppings) he still doesn't question or go against Greg and is willing to be much like Greg.
