He has all the traits of an unhealthy INFP. Takes ideals to the extreme, generates a fictional idea of the external world/other people and indulges in it, ignores/feels disappointed when people don't behave the way he expects them to, etc. He is lonely and lacks someone who understands him, so he is desperate to find a soulmate, and upon encountering Summer who shows signs of having some common quirks he begins to think that she is the soulmate he is looking for, all the while dismissing any differences she has from him. I empathize with him (I've been through a similar situation) but real connection is made by getting out of one's head and embracing the authentic selves of other people.
