FAIR WARNING THIS IS AN ESSAY (and I have actual essays to write). I know she looks like a four, but when you dive into the real core of a type four, I just don’t see it. I thought four at first because of her desire to be different, but a friendly reminder that fours think there’s something special about them because they’re afraid something is inherently wrong with them. They think they’re missing something that everyone else has. That’s why they may have victim complexes and fixate on/wallow in their own struggles, because they see those as what must be different about them, what must be missing in their lives to make them feel this way. Anyone of any enneagram type can want to be special, or feel like there’s something special about them. In fact, that’s literally everyone, whether we want to admit it or not. Eda even agrees, when she talks about how we all want to be special after episode 2. Thinking that you’re unique does not automatically make you a four. It’s about why you want to be special. I’d wager a guess that Luz wants that because she wants the experience of it, to enjoy her life and be happy. Which is the core of a seven. I thought of this later, but also remember that some of this is because of her age. She’s like, 14. Of course anyone at 14 is going to be trying to figure out who they are. If having moments where you felt different from everyone else (especially when you’re this young) made you a four, we would all be fours. As for the triads, those reflect how each type takes in information and the understands themselves in relation to the world around them. Fours, in the heart triad, understand the world in relation to their feelings, and are characterized by a desire to uphold this idea or image of themselves. They’re ashamed they won’t live up to that image, so fours prevent this by creating an image that separates them from other people, making them unique. Sevens, in the head triad, understand the world in relation to their thoughts, and are characterized by this fear of the danger in the world. Sevens, in their core desire of being happy and fear of suffering, strive to avoid this fear. They do so by distracting themselves from these fears and dangers. They’re very different; in their desire to create a unique image, fours are more likely to embrace these fears, while sevens avoid them. Just look at Luz’s grom fear. It’s definitely rooted in a sense of shame for having run away, but how she reacts to that feeling is very uncharacteristic of a four. A four would probably consider that feeling as something that makes them special, and embrace that feeling as part of their image/identity. She does not do this. What she does is the exact opposite of this. She’s afraid to confront it at all. It’s also very telling that when asked her true fear, she gets it wrong. Whether she didn’t actually know it or she deflected, it doesn’t really matter. Either way, she refuses to acknowledge that her real fear is that her mom will discover the truth. If she was dominant in type four she would likely embrace her fear of it in wanting to promote her image of herself, and make it part of her identity. Also keep in mind the stress-growth points on the enneagram. Those are often a really good way of questioning/confirming someone’s enneagram type - if you think you’re a type but don’t resonate with that type’s behaviors in disintegration/integration, you aren’t that type. We have yet to see a lot of her growth, but I think we definitely see her disintegrate to 1 in stress, like sevens do. I’m going to be using the events of the last two episodes here, because I think they’re the most prominent, but this can go for a lot of the conflicts she ends up in. Fours go to two in stress, and it can be difficult to differentiate whether her behavior in these episodes reflects more disintegration to one or two, but I really think it’s one. She wants to save Eda, saying things like “I shouldn’t have done that”. She expresses how she feels that it should’ve ended differently, how she should’ve known better, and is determined to fix it. As a one, I can tell you right now that’s the inner critic talking. It sounds very two-like because of the shame factor and can blur the difference between one and two, but you have to keep in mind her motivation here. Feeling like she should’ve known better shows that she expected better of herself. She sees how corrupt the Emperor’s coven is, clearly disagrees with their mentality and actions, and wants to keep them from hurting other people. She expresses how wrong it was that they took her, and criticizes both herself for trying to get the hat and the coven (specifically Lilith) for taking Eda. She fights them because of this sense of justice, which feels a lot like a seven going to one in disintegration. (continued in replies!)
