Mayer Amschel Rothschild (23 February 1744 – 19 September 1812), was a German Jewish banker and the founder of the Rothschild banking dynasty (https://dbs.bh.org.il/luminary/rothschild-mayer-amschel). He became a dealer in rare coins and won the patronage of Crown Prince Wilhelm of Hesse (Elon, p.65).
