I suspect Nephew Nigel might've been a fan of Jackie Chan Adventure back in the day, a lot of uncle roger's mannerisms like the way he's making sure the young'uns abide by some coocking rule/using the proper technique in his reviews seems to be modelled after the Jackie's Uncle in the show (who happens to be a xstj), also the iconic 'Haiyaaa' had a similar counterpart from the show (minus the h), but that could just be an asian thing as it's apparently a common phrase used for expressing dismay.
