House is the best example of an unhealthy ENTP that has ever been written. I understand the INTJ votes, but his Ni-Fi convergent stack is unconscious NOT conscious. Also his Te is not nearly as prevalent as his Ti, House is ANYTHING but a conscious Te user. His use of Ne and Ti, and Si inferior, are WAYYY too prevalent for him to be anything other than ENTP. House fits the self-preservation E7 ENTP description perfectly. He’s sarcastic, witty, funny, charismatic, extremely calculating and logical, has a complete absence of empathy (Fi blind), has a distain for “experts” and bureaucrats, has 0 regards for rules or authority, is willing to break the law if it means getting to the answers he’s searching for, he’s motivated only by what keeps him interested, and has little to no desire to expand his power or area of influence. He does not waste a single second doing something that does not interest or fuel his curiosity (Ne). Now I know this might seem like I’m stereotyping (and to some degree I am), but you have to remember that House is a fictional character, therefore him having stereotypical characteristics that fit a particular archetype would almost be inevitable. He’s the archetypical “mad genius who suffers terribly” character, much like Rick Sanchez. Fictional characters can never have the cognitive depth and nuance as real human beings (it’s almost silly to actually type them seriously). Everything that House does is to avoid PAIN. This is the whole point of the show. He’s addicted to drugs to avoid pain, he keeps people away from him to avoid pain, and he obsessively fixates on complicated, almost seemingly impossible problems, to avoid pain. He’s also extremely manipulative and uses manipulation as a coping mechanism for his inability to handle any sort of real relationship. As soon as anything in his life gets serious, he finds a way to ruin it to avoid feeling the inevitable pain that might come in the future. The constant games he plays with people, the drug binges, the neglect of other’s people’s opinions/feelings, are all to avoid pain. This is textbook “unhealthy ENTP”. The INTJ votes are coming from people mistaking his Ti pattern recognition for Ni. Ni is not a pattern seeking function, is just a lense function. It doesn’t seek to assign value to anything, it just perceives. It’s his extremely strong Ti-Si convergence that magically gives him the answer at the end of each episode, after exhausting all the possibilities with his team (Ne-Fe).
